HERE’S WHERE THE $ GOES & WHY IT’S IMPORTANT:
Broad Ripple Kiwanis Pumpkin Smash is our largest fundraiser every year for Midtown IPS STEAM (Steam, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math) activities or programs. This event allows the club to provide neighborhoods schools with everything from robotics and Lego clubs, graphing calculators to art supplies and drum-line equipment. “We try to do projects that will influence the most amount of kids,” says Suzannah Hobley, Pumpkin Smash chair. “We also provide transportation for field trips. There’s no money in the school budget for that. Think about when you were a kid going to school, going on field trips. That was pretty influential. Imagine never going on a field trip. It blows my mind.”

Funds raised go to any Midtown Indianapolis Public School that needs help with a STEAM project! Over the years, Kiwanis has assisted with monetary contributions and service projects at the following IPS Schools: #43, 48, 55, 91, 59, Shortridge & Purdue Polytechnic High School:
- Lego clubs, Robotics clubs, Coding camps, Science camps
- STEAM activity supplies and technology support
- Art project supplies, instruments and costumes for programs
- Field trips and after-care programs with AYS or Jordan YMCA
- STEAM-related tutoring
- and many more!
Studies show STEAM curriculim is so vital for enriching children’s education, expanding their minds, sparking creativity, preparing them for the future and connecting them with their community. Broad Ripple Kiwanis is a 501(c)3 local service organization founded in 1987 with a core mission to help local students succeed, and our projects impact kids of all ages & socio-economic backgrounds.
We hope you’ll join us and make our cause to support local students and teachers a priority. Help us prepare kids for the future!
